Cycle-ball worlds in Ludwigsburg earn top marks after five weeks' notice

The Indoor Cycling World Championships, moved to Ludwigsburg at short notice, drew a positive verdict. In cycle-ball, Holzer and Wolf won a third straight women's title, while Austria took the men's crown.

Derby in Great Britain was originally due to stage the championships in mid-October, but the event was called off there for organisational reasons roughly a month beforehand. German Cycling stepped in, and the cycle-ball and artistic cycling competitions were held at the MHPArena in Ludwigsburg from 30 October to 1 November 2026. According to rad-net.de, the organisers had only five weeks to get ready.

In women's cycle-ball, Germany's Danielle Holzer and Judith Wolf were crowned world champions for the third consecutive time. The men's title went to Austria, who defeated the German pairing of Michael Birkner and Robert Mlady in the final.

With so little lead time the arena was not completely full, yet the spectators created a great atmosphere. Katharina Schwarz, German Cycling's vice-president for indoor cycling, praised how smoothly everything had run and gave the championships top marks. Organiser Jens Zimmermann described a “championship of compromises” in which nobody should notice the short preparation time.

Mario Kreh of Ludwigsburg Tourismus was also pleased, saying that when you are offered a world championship, you take it. Next year the indoor world championships move on to France as part of the Super World Championships, which bring almost all cycling disciplines together at the same time in one place.
