Cycle-ball Worlds: Schnetzer and Bröll reunite for Austria in Ludwigsburg
The UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships run from Friday, 30 October, to Sunday, 1 November in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart. Austria's cycle-ball pair is Patrick Schnetzer and Markus Bröll, Cycling Austria reports. Together the two have won six world titles, the most recent in Basel in 2019.
Bröll retired after that victory, and Schnetzer went on to play with Stefan Feurstein. Feurstein is still struggling with a stubborn shoulder injury, so Bröll has come back as Schnetzer's partner this season. At this year's European Championships the pair won all five of their matches, beating Switzerland 2-1 in the final, for their eighth European crown.
Stuttgart is also where Schnetzer won his first world championship medal, a bronze in 2010. He had collected 14 more by 2025.
In the group stage Austria meet Switzerland, bronze medallists at the 2025 Worlds, as well as Hungary and the Czech Republic. The game against Switzerland is on Friday, Hungary and the Czech Republic follow on Saturday, and the knockout round starts after that. Patrick Köck and Pascal Fontain have been named as the reserve pair.
