Swiss cycle-ball duos ninth and tenth at U23 Europeans in Kamenz
Ten teams from six countries lined up at the Flugplatz sports hall in Kamenz, north of Dresden, split into two groups of five. Swiss Indoor- & Unicycling sent two duos: Julian Manser and Mikka Roth as Switzerland 1, and brothers Dario and Luca Schönenberger as Switzerland 2. The federation described the trip as a tough assignment for its young players.
Manser and Roth lost all four group matches, according to radball.at: 3-4 to Germany 3, 2-5 to Slovakia, 3-5 to Austria and 3-11 to Czech Republic 1. The Schönenberger brothers picked up one win in Group 2, beating Czech Republic 2 – the eventual champions – 2-1, before losing to France (2-4), Germany 2 (1-2) and Germany 1 (0-5). In the all-Swiss play-off for ninth place, Switzerland 1 prevailed 4-3.
The European title went to Martin Konecny and Dominik Sabata of Czech Republic 2, who beat Austria's Max Schallert and Timo Lampert 2-1 in the final. Bronze went to David Petr and Michal Musil (Czech Republic 1), who drew 4-4 with Germany 1 (Sullivan Pittner/Lenny Schwarzbauer) after extra time and won the four-metre shoot-out 4-3. Germany 2, Germany 3, Slovakia and France took places five to eight.
In its report two days later, the Swiss federation said not everything had gone to plan, but that all four players had gained international experience to build on in their development.
